Course Overview:
In this course we will discuss the stages of child and adolescent development, the features of each stage, and principles of growth, learning, and parenting.

Curriculum Developer Biography:
Laurie Gilbreath holds a Master of Arts in Education and has 15 years' experience in K-12, higher education, and continuing education. She has also worked for 10 years as a professional development facilitator and designer and an educational trainer. She has developed courses, training manuals, and educational ebooks in topics ranging from healthcare to business to administration and quality management. In addition to her educational experience, she has worked as a freelance writer and editor for 10 years. Her publications include scholarly articles, training and educational materials, web content, and fiction.

In this lesson we will have a general discussion of child and adolescent development considerations.
Lesson 2: Developmental Theories
In this lesson we will discuss the major theories of child and adolescent development.
Lesson 3: Infant/Toddler Development
In this lesson we will discuss the stages of development in an infant and toddler.
Lesson 4: Preschool Development
In this lesson we will discuss the features and characteristics of the preschool child
Lesson 5: Primary Years
In this lesson we will discuss the learning and development of the primary school child.
Lesson 6: The Elementary School Years
In this lesson we will discuss the learning and development of the elementary school child.
Lesson 7: Puberty
In this lesson we will discuss puberty in boys and girls.
Chapter 8: Adolescence in Girls
In this lesson we will discuss the issues facing and development of adolescent girls.
Lesson 9: Adolescence in Boys
In this lesson we will discuss the issues facing and characteristics of adolescent boys.
Lesson 10: Teaching and Learning
In this lesson we will discuss theories and principles of teaching and learning.
Lesson 11: Parenting
In this lesson we will discuss parenting and parenting principles for children and adolescents.
Lesson 12: Legal Considerations
In this lesson we will discuss various legal issues and considerations surrounding child and adolescent development, including privacy, abuse, neglect, special needs, and others.
